Our Story

Our Philosophy

Design With Purpose, Live With Intention

Founded in 2014, Altura Collective began as a design-build consultancy rooted in commercial spatial planning, interior styling, and client representation — acting as our clients' advocate from concept through completion. Our name, derived from the Spanish word for 'height' or 'elevation,' reflects our commitment to raising the standard of architectural design.

In 2025, we expanded through a strategic partnership with SFL Development Group, adding full general contracting capabilities under one roof. The result: clients get a licensed general contractor and a senior designer working as a single team — eliminating the miscommunication, markups, and compromises that come with hiring them separately.

We believe that great design is not just about aesthetics — it's about understanding how people live, what brings them joy, and creating environments that support their daily rituals and aspirations.

Meet the Founder

Raised on Renderings

Growing up, our dining table wasn't for dinner — it was a studio. My father, an architect and builder whose work spans Miami's skyline from Coco Plum to Golden Beach, covered every surface with renderings, blueprints, and sketches. He drew caricatures of me and my siblings, JC and Anna, tried to hijack every school project that involved building or art, and took me to job sites even as he tried to shield me from what he saw as a male-dominated industry.

He discouraged me from becoming an architect. I became one anyway — just on my own terms.

While my friends were playing with Barbies, I was playing with AutoCAD. I've always been able to look at a space and see what it could become instead of what it already is. That instinct — for spatial possibility — has guided everything I've built since.

Two Decades on Your Side of the Table

My career didn't follow a straight line — it was building toward something. I spent fifteen years as a senior executive at Fortune 100 media companies — NBCUniversal, TelevisaUnivision, Sony Music — leading organizations through mergers, acquisitions, and large-scale transformations. As VP of People Experience, I managed thousands of employees across the U.S., Latin America, and Europe, led workforce deployments for FIFA World Cups, and guided teams through some of the most complex organizational changes in the industry.

Through every transformation, the physical space was central to the strategy. I oversaw office relocations, new headquarters buildouts, and workplace redesigns — not as a bystander, but as the client-side leader holding architects and designers accountable. I was the one in the room pushing back on plans that looked impressive but didn't function, delivering hard truths to executives about decisions that would hurt morale or workflow, and making sure every space we built actually served the people inside it.

That executive discipline lives in everything we do at Altura. The precision. The structure. The refusal to let a single detail go unquestioned. Discerning clients don't just want beautiful design — they want to feel held through the process. Anticipated. Understood before they have to explain. That intuition doesn't come from a design course — it comes from fifteen years in rooms where the stakes were measured in millions and the margin for error was zero. It's why we built The Atelier. It's why every project begins with a brief — and ends with a space that was worth the investment.

The Turning Point

Built from Experience. Founded on a Vow.

In 2014, I built my own home — and that experience changed everything. I trusted professionals who prioritized their margins over my vision. Specific instructions were dismissed, shortcuts were buried behind drywall, and corrections came with a second invoice. I walked away with a home full of compromises that served the contractor's timeline, not my life.

I founded Altura Collective with a vow: no client of mine will ever feel that powerless. Today, alongside our family's development company, SFL Development Group, we bring both the design vision and the construction knowledge to protect our clients from the very first sketch.

Miami Native, Global Vision

Born in the Magic City. Building Beyond It.

My father designed restaurants, medical centers, government buildings, and parks across Miami — his work is woven into this city's landscape. I grew up understanding its neighborhoods, its building codes, its rhythms. From the Mediterranean character of Coral Gables to the Art Deco energy of Miami Beach, from the canopy of Coconut Grove to the towers of Brickell — this city is in our DNA.

That foundation now extends across the Atlantic. We design residences, restaurants, pieds-à-terre, and finca-estates across Spain — from Madrid to Marbella, Alicante to Ibiza — where our current project, a private compound on the Mediterranean coast, is shaping up to be our most ambitious work yet. Through our partner studio in Paris, we're expanding our reach into France — bringing the Altura aesthetic and design DNA to a global clientele.

A Mediterranean Perspective

Rooted in Miami. At Home on the Mediterranean.

Lei splits her time between Miami and Spain's Mediterranean coast — where centuries-old stone, Mediterranean light, and the unhurried rhythm of daily life shape a design sensibility you can't learn from a mood board.

It's this transatlantic lens — understanding how people actually live across cultures, climates, and continents — that gives Altura's work its depth. The warmth of Spanish tile, the scale of Andalusian courtyards, the way a Levantine breeze moves through a room — these influences live quietly in every project, whether the address is Coral Gables or the Costa Blanca.

Our Values

What Guides Our Work

01

Design That Listens First

Every project begins with understanding — how you live, how you work, how a space needs to perform. We design for real life, not portfolio shots.

02

Built to Last, Designed to Evolve

We think in phases. Spaces that grow with you — whether it's a home adapting to a growing family, a restaurant preparing for expansion, or a workspace built to scale. As intentional at twenty years as they are on day one.

03

Your Advocate, Always

Having spent years on the client side of major projects, we bring an owner's-rep mentality to everything we do. Your interests come first. Always.

Where Living Meets Legacy

After two decades in corporate America, I left to build something with meaning — spaces that stand the test of time, designed around the people who call them home. Let's create yours.
